Meeting with a Professional Designer

I presented my finished project drawings to Bob Krikac who is a faculty in interior design program in Washington State University. I re-drew some of my drawings in order to provide better versions and communicate my ideas better.
The presentation was taken place in Carpenter 114 in Pullman, Washington, which is a studio for sophomore interior design students. I started to tell Professor Krikac my inspiration of “idea of home” first, and then I showed him my parti and my concept model. Next, I showed him my floor plan that I re-designed a fully ADA accessible room for Besse’s family. I introduced the place of each room first and then I show the perspectives and elevations of those rooms in order to communicate my idea in further. Professor Krikac listened my presentation and he gave me a lot of feedback and I divide them into three categories. Firstly, he said that there were some wrong dimensions that I need to take care of such like a sofa bed in an office would block the doorway if is open. I just considered the sofa bed folded so I thought the dimension was fine. Secondly, Professor Krikac said that I needed to add more things to my design in order to make it interesting and cool. He thought that my overall design is a little bit boring. Finally, he mentioned that I should always relate my concept of “idea of home” to the design for Besse’s residence.
The experience of meeting with a professional designer was really meaningful and educational. It made me feel that there are still a lot more skills and knowledge that I need to learn. I believe I will try my best in order to be a mature and skilled designer.

Graphic Reflections

Throughout  this semester, I learned some new techniques that I really love. I got to know more knowledge that an interior designer should know and should be expert at. I know how to draw one point and two points perspective drawing step by step. At first, it was a big challenge but I gradually get more used to it and now I love to draw in perspectives and I think I could do them well. Also, I learned how to render in markers. Though I felt boring and less-interested at the beginning since I felt like I could rendered very well, the marker rendering is different from others. Luckily, later I do not feel that way anymore when I practice more and more and as a result, I get more skilled and ow how to blend markers and color pencil in order to render vividly and professionally. In additional, I re-designed an existing space by using the photoshop and hand sketches. It was really an interesting experience. I was worried at first that I could meet some technique problems, but I conquered those difficulties and pleasingly, the results turned out good eventually and I enjoyed the process for creating. Though every work was confusing at first, I gradually get used to them and I put my efforts to them to make them reach the line of the perfection in my mind. I think that is a success of mine.
